JURIED OPEN CALL EXHIBITI...
Description

Crossing Art Gallery is seeking submissions for "Going Green II", the second annual juried group exhibition of local and international artists that will be on view at Crossing Art from June 14 – July 14, 2012.

In 2011, over 50 international and local artists applied; 6 were selected and exhibited their artwork as part of the first “Going Green” exhibition.  Two award recipients were chosen, each receiving a solo exhibition.  Susan Evans Grove, one of the award recipients last year, recently held her solo exhibition at Crossing Art, Material Reflections, which received great reviews and success.

This year, from the artists selected for the “Going Green II” exhibition, one artist will be chosen to have a solo exhibition at Crossing Art in 2013, receiving potential representation and a cash prize. Proceeds collected from the “Going Green II” Open Call application fees are given directly to support the non-profit organization, Queens Council on the Arts. QCA provides support to arts organizations and individual artists in presenting their culturally diverse programs for the benefit of the community.

“Going Green” is now an annual exhibition that supports not only an eco-friendly environment but raises issues about the current trends and future fate of urban landscapes. “Going Green” started as an Open Call to artists to apply to be considered for the exhibition, presenting innovative artworks and ideas that integrate natural systems with human patterns while celebrating continuity, uniqueness and place making. We are looking for local and international artists, architects, and designers to submit either artworks that explore contemporary meanings of “green”, whether relating to past, present and/ or what the future holds for the environment in general.

Work submitted should have the power to transform, inspire and/ or promote public awareness of green initiatives. Themes can range from the meaning of the color green to the green political party to issues concerning eco-systems, conservation, recycling and sustainability to what green cities might look like or what constitute a green lifestyle. All creative persons are invited to submit any artwork or proposal that evokes some form or concept of “green”.  All media is acceptable including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, performance, installation, video and sculpture.
