"Distorted" Juried Show

Changing a reality, altering the vantage point - be it through anamorphosis or through distortion - often enables the artist to express reality even clearer. The expected, shortest distance between point A and point B is straight. What if the path takes curves, loops and even retrograde steps?

Submit: Your art in any medium, painting, sculpture, ceramic, jewelry, fabric, video, installation...
Images must be in jpg format (max. 10mb 4000 pixels longest side) & include title_dimensions.

Submit: A writing piece to tell how your piece changes reality. (appx. 50 words)

Submit: A short one sentence description of each piece.

Juror: Nelson Ghorbanian studied painting at City Colleges of Chicago under Professor Michael Parfenoff, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Chicago Academy of Fine Art where he studied Print making under Jerome Walker, attended Columbia College and School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he studied advance Printmaking. First exhibited as early as 1964 in Chicago and followed with numerous group shows. In early 1972 opened and operated Print Making Workshop and Air Gallery Inc. along with teaching printmaking, silkscreen, and lithography classes at Harold Washington College in Chicago IL.

First Prize 50$ gift certificate usable in the gallery against next month's Display fee or Walk in classes and a certificate signed by the Judge.

Second Prize 25$ gift certificate usable in the gallery against next month's Display fee or classes and a certificate signed by the Judge.

Two Special Mentions 10$ gift certificate usable in the gallery against next month's Display fee or classes and a certificate signed by the Judge.

Size of Artwork
Artwork size may not exceed 36” x 36" x 18" for one, or 84" x 60" x 18" for three pieces.
Contact us for any oversized artwork submissions.

Display Fee*
Due by July 19th, 2013
Upon acceptance you will be expected to pay a display fee* at the rate of $20 per painting or $50 for 3 paintings, as we are a co-op gallery run by artists.
You will receive invites, webpage, and inclusion in press releases.
You will pay 20% on your sales as commission to the gallery.

Drop Off/Receipt of Work (for international applicants)
July 30th – August 3rd
You are responsible for hanging your gallery ready work for display in the designated area before the show. If you are outside of Chicago, you are responsible for shipping, and for a reusable package plus the shipping fee for the return (any overage will be refunded in the event of a sale).

Artwork which is not picked up within 30 days becomes the property of the gallery.

100% Insurance of your work on our premises at the fair value you declare. You are responsible for insuring artwork in transit. Artwork will not be insured after Sept. 6th.

*Display fee is non-refundable.
