Michelle Smythe is an artist living in Rockport, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the U.T. Tyler, and an M.A.
and an M.F.A. from Stephen F. Austin State University. Smythe has exhibited her work throughout the United States and was
recently awarded Best of Show by L.A. artist Chaz Bojorquez for her work in a live painting performance/exhibition at Ben Bailey
Art Gallery in Kingsville, Texas. Smythe is a founding member and serves as Executive Director of K Space Contemporary, a nonprofit,
contemporary art space in Corpus Christ, Texas.

September 10: Email notifications to selected entries.
September 27 – October 1: Selected entries due. Mailed or hand delivered at the Fine Arts Department (see address below)
October 7: Show opens, opening reception 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
October 29: Last Day of exhibition
November 1 – 5: Artwork returned, hand delivered artwork picked up from the Fine Arts office.
• Open to artists 18 years or older living in United States.
• Artwork must be original work inspired in some way by the written word in any of its many forms (literature, billboards,
coupons, your own writing, etc.).
• Artwork must have been created within the past two years.
• Artwork previously shown in the VC Fine Arts Gallery is ineligible. 2-D work must be ready to hang.
• Each artist may submit up to three entries.
• Open to all media including video.
Entries by Email Only:
Email (maximum 3) fine quality JPEG files to email@example.com. Each image
should be at least 600 pixels and not more than 800 pixels along the longest edge. Please name each image file with your
full name and entry number 1, 2, 3 (for example- johnsmith1.jpeg). In the same email please list the following details for

Please also include a brief statement (100 words or less) sharing the written source of your inspiration for
each artwork. In case of works from one series, a single statement can be submitted. These statements will be available
for viewers to read during the exhibition.
A non-refundable entry fee of $15 is charged to each artist. Payment may be made by check or money order
payable to The Victoria College at 2200 E Red River, Victoria, TX 77901, and is due August 27, 2010. Credit card
payments should be made by phone to the secretary at 361-582-2573. Entries will not be considered for judging if the fee
is not received by the due date.
Delivery of Accepted Work:
Accepted entries must be delivered on September 27 – October 1. Work can be hand
delivered between 8:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. All accepted work must include pre-paid shipping labels to ensure its return. The
artist is responsible for insured shipping to and from The Victoria College Fine Arts Department.
Accepted artwork must be ready to install. VC reserves the right to make final decisions regarding eligibility of
artwork, and make minor edits of the statements for display. All artwork must remain on exhibition throughout the designated
show schedule. VC assumes no liability for artwork; all pieces are uninsured.
Sales and Reproduction:
Please note that the Student Art Association receives a commission of 20% on all sales. The
Victoria College reserves the right to photograph exhibiting artwork for publicity purposes.
Return of the Artwork:
Hand delivered artwork can be picked up from VC Fine Arts Office between November 1 and 5,
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. All hand delivered artwork left in the Gallery after 4:00 p.m. on November 5 will become the property
of The Victoria College. Work to be shipped must have a pre-paid shipping label and will be sent out by November 5.
