Lipstick and Rouge
Description

The Second Space Gallery invites you to enter the juried exhibition entitled, “Lipstick and Rouge”, to be held in Spokane, Washington during December 2010. The title refers to the ways in which we perceive beauty through color.  In the past, red has been associated with passion, love, anger, heat and a range of other things.  Our desire is to see what it means to the artists of the Pacific Northwest.  Over $1000 in prize money will be awarded to artists whose work adheres to theme, demonstrates impact and energy, and stimulates us visually.  Karen Kaiser, of the Jundt Museum at Gonzaga University, will judge the show.

Awards

$500 - Best of show
$300 – Merit award
At least three honorable mention awards of $75

About Karen Kaiser

For over twenty years, Karen Kaiser has been making her mark on the Washington art world.  She began as a student of painting at Fort Wright College in Spokane and went on to earn her Master of Fine Art degree in Drawing and Printmaking from Washington State University.  After graduation, she turned to art instruction and later extended her career focus to help art students in other ways.

With her extensive experience teaching oil, acrylic and watercolor painting at community colleges and at WSU, Ms. Kaiser has helped hundreds of students develop their own talents.  Her fifteen years as the Art Program Manager at Spokane Falls Community College led to a position as the Assistant Curator for Education at the Spokane Art School.

Ms. Kaiser currently puts her education and expertise to work as the Assistant Curator for Education at the Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University in Spokane.  The Jundt Museum is a 2800 square foot museum that exhibits travelling shows as well as a rotating selection of the University’s own extensive art collection.

In addition to her teaching and curatorial duties, Ms Kaiser has been able to maintain an active exhibition record in Washington and Idaho galleries.
