S'Long As It's Yours

Exhibition Spring 2012

 

 

S'Long As It's Yours marks the return of a semi-annual exhibition at Gallery Aferro, Newark NJ, each of which is a thematic exploration of an aspect of local and global urbanism. Each exhibition is accompanied by a full color catalog with original writing. Artists working in any media, including performance, are invited to submit existing work, or propose new work (including critiques of this call) in response to any of the following:

 

Shiftwork

Habitus

Intrasubcultural Politics

Mistranslations, especially those that are reproduced over time.

"Biting," Stance, and Coding

Commodity Fetishism, especially of handmade, functional items.

 

The title of this exhibition is derived from a brief exchange about a fur coat, between two strangers on a train leaving Newark:

 

   I didn't know you could work it like that.

 

You can work it any way you want s'long as it's yours.

 

Artists should email the following to submit@aferro.org, with the subject line "Last Name_First Name_Yours”

Every submission/proposal must include:

A CV/resume, artist statement, brief statement about the specific work you propose to show with us,
contact information, google checkout order confirmation (see below) and work samples: jpeg under 1 MB.
There is no minimum or maximum number of images to include. (Please include title, size, price and media information.) Applicants are welcome to stop by the gallery during gallery hours to look at the space. Feel free to email for a floor plan of gallery spaces or other information you may need from us.

There is a $5 USD fee per submission, via google checkout at www.aferro.org

If you truly cannot afford this fee please contact us for a waiver. We do not believe in artist gouging and have begun to ask for this small donation only as part of our overall, diversified activities to support our nonprofit programs.
