The Electronic Media Area of the West Virginia University Department of Art is pleased to announce a call for entries to the 2nd annual West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival. We seek independent, unique and compelling work in film, video and animation. All interested artists, filmmakers, and multimedia enthusiasts are encouraged to submit. Student submissions are also encouraged. Send us your work!

There are no rules governing content or artistic approach. There are no entry fees for submission of work. We only seek well crafted, compelling or conceptually challenging works in video, film and multimedia. The only restriction for competitive entries is a 20-minute maximum running time.

Categories of Competition?Works will be considered for five competitive categories:
•    Documentary Short
•    Narrative Short
•    Animation/ Experimental
•    Student Production
•    Energy Theme (works in any genre that take the theme “Energy” as a focus)

The Energy Theme? In an effort to draw attention to the complex problems and issues connecting energy, economics, the environment, and culture, festival organizers seek works in any genre that take the theme “Energy” as a focus. These works should address or reflect notions of energy or the many ways in which it is implicated in contemporary experience, such as climate change/global warming, consumption, sustainability, behavior/lifestyle, fossil fuels, renewable sources, economics, politics, industry… etc.

Modest awards have been established by the festival organizers to recognize work of exceptional accomplishment. They include a $200.00 Best of Festival award, and five $100 awards in each of the festival categories: Best Documentary Short, Best Narrative Short, Best Animation/Experimental, Best Student Work, and Best Energy Themed Project.
